Early on, Garthwait was struck by the power of story and action. Stories erupted in the world of environment, social and political justice. The stories attracted participants from around the world: Nobel Peace Laureates, A-list actors and musicians (Harrison Ford, Julia Roberts, Sting, Radio Head, Patrick Stewart, and others) The end result was action: political prisoner releases, creation of international campaigns, environmental initiatives, and the realization that the story is never finished.
